Dear athletes,

You are probably aware that we saw an unusualy high number of mispunches (77 athletes in total) at the LONG-distance yesterday.

Please know that we analysed every single case very exactly. In general, we saw THREE different cases:

1) Not activated SIACs – 4 cases. Please remember that you MUST follow the procedure CLEAR -> CHECK (SIAC ON) before EVERY race. We do admit that the CLEAR and CHECK stations were not ideally placed in the mass-start arena.

2) Technical issues – 20 cases. We could identify a small batch of SIACs that showed signs of failure during the race. “Interestingly”, this failure affected only a small number of classes. We are very sad to have to announce that we have voided the following categories:
W60
W70
M70

PLEASE NOTE: We have decided to replace these 20, and 24 further SIACS from the same batch (which actually did work at the LONG, but we want to eliminate all chances of another failure), for todays race. The list of affected runners can be found on a separate page. You will receive the replacement SIAC AT THE START, so please proceed to the start with a few minutes spare to allow for us to exchange your SIAC.

3) “Real” mispunches – 53 cases. Yes, please do understand that a large number of runners did – according to our analysis – have “normal mispunches” – i.e. single missing control, single wrong control (other control punched), course-loop skipped or reversed. Also, we know that there were some cases of abondoning race due to bicycle defect. We will publish the result of our analysis separately.

CONCLUSION: We fully accept if you wish to discuss our analysis. Each mispunch analysis is waiting at the event office for discussion.

Again, we are very sorry about the technical issues, but please understand that NOT EVERY MISPUNCH was our fault.

2016 09 29  Opening ceremony parade with orchestra starts today 16.40. Please everyone come at Event centre hotel “Kaunas”. ELITE AND MASTERS will parade to Town Hall Square, under the national flags, announcing for Kaunas citizens that orienteering celebration starts in Kaunas. Let’s be visible!
